This course directs the student towards an operational understanding of large single-agency and complex multi-agency/multi-jurisdictional incident responses. Topics include fundamentals review for command and general staff, major and/or complex
incident/event management, area command, and multi-agency coordination.

Focus is on the Incident Command System (ICS) for supervisors in expanding emergency incidents, and provides more descriptive detail of the organization, structure, responsibilities, duties and terminology used in event and incident planning. The course includes scenarios to enhance learning and provides a foundation for being able to participate successfully in command and control courses offered by the Emergency Management Institute at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Legal considerations for a court proceeding as part of the certification for Fire Investigator 1. Topics include preparing records, coordinating expert resources, formulating an opinion, presenting investigative findings, and testifying during legal proceedings.

Course focusing on fire scene documentation and evidence collection/preservation as part of certification for Fire Investigator 1. Topics include photographing and diagramming the scene, processing and selecting evidence for analysis, and establishing a chain of custody.

This course provides information on basic fire investigation, including securing the fire scene and determining the origin and cause of the fire. Topics include the responsibilities of a fire investigator, securing the fire ground, conducting an exterior and interior survey, and analyzing fire patterns.

Basic knowledge of a Fire Fighter I�s field inspection roles and responsibilities specific to California including tents, canopies, and temporary membrane structures; fireworks and explosives; and wildland urban interface environments.

Basic knowledge of field inspection roles and responsibilities of a Fire Inspector I including basic plan review, emergency access for an existing system, hazardous materials, and the operational readiness of fixed fire suppression systems, existing fire detection and alarm systems, and portable fire extinguishers.

Introduction to fire and life safety aspects related to the roles and responsibilities of a Fire Inspector 1 including building construction, occupancy classifications, occupancy load, means of egress, hazardous conditions, fire growth potential, fire flow, and emergency planning and preparedness measures.

Introduction to the roles and responsibilities of a Fire Inspector I including legal responsibilities and authority, codes and standards, the inspection process, privacy requirements, and administrative tasks such as inspection reports, permit review, and investigation of common complaints.
